and from the Diaspora…
March 23, 2006
Today I had the chance to check out Glendale Chick’s blog and came across her latest post about Armenians and the left, a conference which is going to be held 7-9 April 2006 in Boston and New York. It is being cosponsored by several organizations such as the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, the Nation Institute and others and is featuring prominent Diasporan Armenian as well as non-Armenian panelists about topics ranging from Human Rights in Transcaucasus to War, Media and Propaganda. It will feature main speakers such as Robert Fisk, Noam Chomsky and Dr. Robert Krikorian from Harvard University – check out the site for their bios.

There are no real leftist Armenians except for a few ones.

Ok, just on the whole double odar thing, this is NOT new. The “locals” have always bothered the Armenians coming into Eastern Armenia. During Genocide, they were the Gakhtakans. Then in the 40s-50s, they were the Axpars. and now, it’s just the whole Spyurk. I was born in Hayastan, now I live in US. When I visit Hayastan, they neven look at me as a local.
WE CAN OVERCOME!
….But on the brighter note, the Diaspora Armenians are more…

I agree and I know that Diasporan Armenians do tend to have more privilages while residing in Armenia– I myself know personally.
And at the same time, the local Armenians know that they would not be able to do many things without the diaspora.
IN any case, I appreciate your optimistic comments and really agree. We still need to work together as much as possible so that both the people in the Diaspora and the people living in Armenia today are living in a much better state.
cheers to that!
